An experiment in writing.

Not quite poetry, and not quiet a story... rather, perhaps something in between.

But, ah, it is cryptic prose!

Past Featured StorySummary: It has been one hundred years...one hundred years since Eragon Shadeslayer, the tyrant of Alagaesia was hurled from his throne after murdering his entire family, after the wicked elves poisoned him in his sleep. One hundred years since the slant-eyed Tartars bridged the Edda River and drove into Alagaesia, conquering Surda and breaking the Empire. One hundred years since the dwarf fanatic Nado and his general Gannel took an army to Du Weldenvarden and drove the elves to near extinction.

It has been seventy five years since the Urgals drove the humans from Palancar Valley, seventy five years since the wild dragons came from over the sea to wreak havoc on the land. It has been sixty years since the werecats came and destroyed a clan of Urgals, giving themselves a kingdom, and fifty years since the rogue Rider Arthain, master of the slave dragon Khargal drove through werecats and into the forest, gathering up an army of Urgals to further decimate the elves. Forty-five years since he succeded. Forty years since the great plague tore through the city-states of Teirm and Kuasta, allowing them to be ravaged by the wild dragons.

It has been thirty years since the northmen burst from the snows to take Palancar Valley, bathing the land in blood. Thirty years since Bleda the Tartar conquered Teirm and tamed a dragon, bringing peace to the north, only to have the dragons come gain, locking the land in a furious war. Twenty years since rebels threw the Tartars from Surda, sacking Aberon. Fifteen years since the Urgals defeated the northmen and drove them to the northern snows, slaughtering entire tribes. Ten years since Arthain, Alagaesia’s last Rider, attacked Osilon to take the sword of Galbatorix, slaying all but fifty of the elves.

This land has become a hell, a pit of offal and blood, a land where the strong grind the weak beneath their boots, where man fights for himself and himself only. The land has become a place where the people, the common and the lowborn, are treated like little more than animals. They call out for help, for water and light—and even those are taken from them. The land has become a place of shame, of death, of innocent blood spilled by cruel warlords. It has become a land forsaken by the gods. It has become a land of misery

We need a king. We need a man who can unite us and give us salvation. We must hope. For if we lose hope, then truly have we lost everything.

Summary:

They were fools, and they died fools. And like all fallen fools, their names would be sung by the bards for a hundred years to come.

One hundred years after the cataclysmic Fall, the traitorous king Galbatorix rules Alagaesia atop his palace at Uru'baen, his black dragon Shruikan at his side. He rules his kingdom with an iron fist, sucking the life from its inhabitants, crushing them into desperate misery while his own power grows yearly.

Yet in the midst of this, a boy will find the hope that can bring his land salvation from the evil that closes in around it. He will travel the length and breadth of Alagaesia, fight men and monsters and Shades, find love, save the Empire, and finally, like all heroes, fall to his faults and become what he hates the most: a tyrant.

This is the story of a boy who went from miserable thrall, to fugitive of the Empire, to hero of the rebels, to saviour and king, and finally to the tyrant who plunges Alagaesia into yet another era of barbarism and darkness.

This is the story of Eragon. This is the story of a hero.

FeatureSummary: Once, long ago, the elf Maerzadí had a premonition that he would accidentally kill his son in battle. Rather than live to see it happen, he committed suicide, saving his son, and at the same time proving that the future isn’t set. Short of killing yourself, however, you can do little to change your destiny, since you don’t know what choices will lead you to the particular point of time that you saw.  ~Arya Dröttningu More info...
